The PPSTA --- Through the Years Through the years, the PPSTA remains as the indubitable exponent for quality education. As the first and only nationwide professional organization for teachers, it  has been riding the waves of change and development and has been steadfast in its mission of upholding the dignity of the teaching profession and advocating teachers’  welfare.  The Milestones   1937 Construction, completion and inauguration of the Teachers’ Pavilion  in Quezon Institute intended to cater the needs of teachers afflicted  with health malady, tuberculosis, through the League of Philippine  Public School Teachers Associations (LPPSTA)   1946 Advocated the salary increase of teachers    1948-1950  Worked for the improvement of teachers’ welfare specifically on the  passage of RA No. 312 also known as the “Public School Act”    1951-1954  Collaborated with the education sector for the re-examination of the  Philippine Philosophy of Education whose sole purpose is to  improve community life as well as individual self-fulfillment    1966 Spearheaded the approval of RA 4670 otherwise known as the “Magna Carta for Public School Teachers”, a landmark legislation where PPSTA was  duly recognized as a legitimate national organization of public school teachers.  As enshrined in the Magna Carta, PPSTA local chapter presidents represent the teachers in their  municipal/city and provincial school boards. The law likewise mandates that PPSTA be  represented in investigating committees at all levels in the education hierarchy.    2007-2008  PPSTA launched the signature campaign in support of the bills calling the increase in the  salaries of public school teachers. The bills were later on enacted into law.  The Search for Outstanding Teachers,  School Heads, Supervisors, Non-  Teaching Personnel and Local Chapters  was institutionalized.   2010 With approximately 2,000 teacher-leaders from Southeast Asia in attendance, PPSTA  successfully hosted the 26th ASEAN Council of Teachers (ACT) in Subic, Zambales. Filipino  educator, Dr. Roland Fronda brought prestige to the country when his musical piece won the  Search for ACT Hymn.   April 8, 2011  St. Therese Learning Academy of Quezon City, a PPSTA partner and an off-shoot to the  organization’s plan of establishing the PPSTA Academy which will cater to the professional  needs of teachers, was inaugurated.    May 20, 2011  Chapter Presidents’ Meeting was held in Quezon City in which the group  unanimously resolved to support the following bills:  1. House Bill No. 2142 mandating the salary upgrade of  teachers from salary grade 11 to 15  2. House Bill No. 4096 making election service voluntary to  teachers  3. House Bill No. 4077 granting free post secondary education  to dependents of teachers 4.
